NEWS: Alice Cooper disagrees with Gene Simmons on his claim that 'Rock is Dead'
"We survived those things because guitar-driven hard rock is the only thing that will still be going 30 years"
For several years now, KISS Bassist Gene Simmons has been pushing "rock is dead" narrative, most recently by saying that the cause of rock dying out is the youth of today however, legendary shock rocker Alice Cooper doesn't agree with the artists statement.
Cooper touched on Simmons' statements in an interview with NME.
"I guarantee you right now, in London somewhere, in garages, they're learning Aerosmith, they're learning Guns N' Roses. A bunch of 18-year-kids are in there with guitars and drums, and they are learning hard rock,"
Cooper feels that rock maintains its outlaw status by not being featured in mainstream media, which can be seen as positive because that's where the whole genre started off, by not conforming to the trends and being different from the rest.
What many people forget is that the rock genre has been around the longest thanks to its constant evolution into sub genres but with the same core. Rock has a power to provide a sanctuary for everyone, regardless of age, race or sex, from the plastic conformity of todays standards.
"We survived those things because guitar-driven hard rock is the only thing that will still be going 30 years from now, 40 years from now. And I think music will go all over the place, but you're gonna find those hard rock bands still there." Cooper said.
