NEWS: No rock nominations at 2020 AMA's

2020 has taken its toll on everyone and the latest victim of the “year from Hell” has been The American Music Awards, nominations have been revealed, but with categories like “Favorite song pop/rock” and “Favorite Album pop/rock” the ‘Rock’ seriously seems to be lacking, with all nominations going to pop artists.

To say that these awards are biased is an understatement, it is high time that these categories be separated, and acknowledgement given to the rock bands that deserve it. The closest nomination to rock come in the ‘alternative Category’ with Twenty One Pilots nominated.

Mainstream music awards have become less and less about the actual music but rather about the performers popularity, regardless of, if that popularity is actually garnered from their musical talent or the attention seeking antics they get up to in their off time and we believe in the majority of modern performers, it’s the latter.

Luckily, there are award ceremonies dedicated to the gut-wrenching power of Rock. The Metal Hammer Golden God Awards started in 2003 and pays homage to the biggest names in Rock with categories such as ‘Best New band’, ‘Best live band’, ‘Global metal award’ and ‘Golden God’. The 2018 event, held at the London O2 Arena saw live acts from Baroness, Meshuggah and Parkway Drive

.
