NEWS: Popstars are starting to create rock music

Miley Cyrus has taken the leap and decided to release a full rock album , we've seen here fade in and out of the genre over the last few years, but it appears she's ready to dive in with her next studio album "Plastic Hearts". At the virtual #SOSFest held in October, Miley performed a cover of The Cranberries' "Zombie" at the iconic Whisky a Go Go and received huge amounts of praise from fans as well as The Cranberries themselves, saying it was one of the best renditions of the song they have ever heard. Since being released as a single this version has received over 6 million views on her YouTube channel and has been purchased 780 000 times and streamed over 400 million times on Spotify.

“It’s one of the finest covers of the song that we’ve heard”

Miley also believes that pursuing rock music may not be a one time thing either and she has revealed recently in an interview that she was busy working on a complete Metallica cover album.

"Plastic Hearts" releases on November 27, 2020

Jumping on the pop to rock bandwagon is Pop star Halsey, who has also thrown her interest into the ring to record a rock album. Her career has seen her dabble in everything from pop to punk to a strange experiment with Bring Me the Horizon. she has also featured on a track with rapper turned rocker Machine gun Kelly and many fans believe she is diving deeper and deeper into the rock genre.

The MGK track "Forget Me Too" which she features on is reminiscent of the early 2000's bubblegum rock bands popping up strumming the same 3 chords while jumping around in torn jeans and eyeliner while repeating every second verse. Although it may be a hard transition for fans to go from pop, into songs featuring blistering guitar solos, thundering base lines and story line lyrics, its going to be tough convincing the rock community that this is not just a passing phase and proving she deserves a spot amongst the top women in Rock.

"The album kind of makes itself. When that time comes, it'll happen on its own. I definitely need to do it eventually though, because I'm starting to age out of being angsty and punk."

And lastly, Doja Cat surprised everyone with yet another performance of her song "Say So" at this years MTV Europe Music Awards. This song has been over performed this year and to keep the hit fresh would be a challenge for any respecting artist, but at the awards ceremony she managed to do just that with dropped guitars and heavy base notes as soon as the song start you realize that its not the poppy song she is known for.

But it is not without controversy, after the performance, Australian guitarist, Plini, pointed out in a tweet that her song featured part of one of his composition that he appeared on his track "Handmade Cities" from the same titled album in 2016.
